Week 31 · Third trimester

31 weeks pregnant

Black-eyed Susan

41.8 cm (16.5 in)head to heel

At about 41.1 cm from head to heel, your baby is close in length to a Black-eyed Susan (~40–45 cm), a golden daisy with a strong, dark center.

This week, inside

Your baby is active—moving, sucking fingers, and sometimes turning over. Fat continues to fill out the skin, and voices beyond the womb may be becoming familiar.

What you might be noticing

  • Practice tightenings. brief, painless Braxton Hicks tightenings may come and go.
  • Sleep and heat. sleep may be broken, and you may feel warmer.
  • Digestion. indigestion, bloating, constipation, or piles may remain part of the week.

Small things that help

Let familiar voices fill an ordinary moment if that feels good—reading a grocery list counts. Keep your day flexible around energy rather than forcing energy around the plan.

For the record

Whose voice, laugh, or story has been nearby this week?

Zohra asks one of these every week, and keeps your answer. A year from now it is the part people say they are most glad they wrote down.
