Week 25 · Second trimester

25 weeks pregnant

Begonia

33.7 cm (13.3 in)head to heel

At about 34.6 cm from head to heel, your baby is close in length to a Carnation (~35 cm), its ruffled bloom balanced by a long, steady stem.

This week, inside

Your baby may react to a loud noise with a jump or kick, and you might notice occasional hiccups. Your baby is urinating into the amniotic fluid, which provides cushioning and helps maintain a stable temperature.

What you might be noticing

  • A lively inner world. a sound may be followed by a movement, and hiccups may feel rhythmic.
  • Heartburn and indigestion. digestion may feel slower or less comfortable.
  • Sleep and cramps. sleeping difficulties and leg cramps are listed among common symptoms.

Small things that help

Try smaller pauses between the day’s larger tasks. Keep a snack, water, and your question list within reach; none of them need to become a project.

For the record

Was there a movement, hiccup, or ordinary moment this week that felt unmistakably yours?

Zohra asks one of these every week, and keeps your answer. A year from now it is the part people say they are most glad they wrote down.
