Week 13 · First trimester
13 weeks pregnant
Tulip bloom
6.7 cm (2.6 in)crown to rump
A Tulip bloom (~6–8 cm cup) opens with clean, steady lines. It marks the start of a new trimester without promising that every symptom—or every feeling—changes on schedule.
This week, inside
The fetus is around 7.4 cm long and is moving, though those movements may not be felt yet. Movements are becoming more deliberate, and sucking motions help develop the sucking reflex needed for feeding later.
What you might be noticing
Bloating, constipation, indigestion or heartburn, and breast tenderness can continue into the second trimester. Gum swelling or bleeding is also listed as a possible symptom this week.
- Bloating
- Constipation
- Heartburn
- Tender breasts
- Gum changes
Small things that help
Take a fresh photo of something that represents the transition into this trimester. Clear one small surface or folder for the paperwork and keepsakes that may start to gather.
For the record
What are you carrying forward from the first trimester, and what can stay behind?
Zohra asks one of these every week, and keeps your answer. A year from now it is the part people say they are most glad they wrote down.

Keep this week
Zohra draws this same flower in the app, at this same size, and keeps what you write beside it — with your bump photos, the letters, and the sounds from your appointments.
